当曹操听说刘备夺得西川，他自己想去攻下西川。可是，黄忠和严颜把天荡山（天荡山是曹操囤粮的地方）占领了，也把曹操的粮食都烧掉了。

刘备夺取和当了汉中王以后，曹操跟孙权一同想攻打荆州，把汉中夺取回来。孙权的大将，鲁蒙，骗了刘备的士兵，取下了荆州。
