Clothes should be clean, and not superficial

One day, Confucious told his son Kong Li, "Gentlemen have to learn and be educated, and have to be polite to the people they meet, if not they'll give them the impression that they are not gentlemanly, and will appear disrespectful, and unmannered, and disrespectful and unmannered people will not be successful in life. If you see people at a distance that emanate brightness, that is because they dress appropriately, and when standing close to a person will let the person feel happy, they are educated and wise."

Kong Li digested this information then asked, "So you mean that, I have to dress myself up nicely. But didn't you always tell me that I as long as I have my personable charm around me it was fine, and I didn't have to be elegant in appearance." Confucius replied, "Ah, my son, An elegant appearance and characteristic quality are both important, but being elegant and refined in manner will allow you to become a good man. If a person was very modest and down-to-earth,
but lacked elegance, they would look quite ungainly, and yet they can still strive for an elegant look, but if a person has more looks than charisma, they will be misled. Deceiving words, camouflages kindness, and these kinds of people usually are not kindhearted. They only have character and appearances to match with appropriately, only this can make up a gentleman!"
